Questions
The things everyone asks.
Straight answers, no runaround. If yours is not here, call us at +1 438-886-4658 or send your date and we will come back to you within one business day.
Booking and availability
Are you available on our date?
Send us the date and we will confirm the same day. Our Saturdays are limited and they go early, so we would rather give you a clear answer immediately than leave you waiting on one.
Worth knowing: many of our couples come to us before they sign with a venue. If you have a date in mind and you want us specifically, start with us. It is far easier to build the weekend around us than to find us later.
Check your dateHow far in advance should we book?
Most of our couples are with us twelve to eighteen months before the day. Peak Saturdays in May, June, September and October are often claimed close to two years out.
We open one season at a time. We are currently taking bookings for 2026 and 2027.
Our wedding is in 2028. Can we book now?
Not yet, but send us the date regardless. When 2028 opens, everyone on our list hears from us first, before a single date is released publicly. You will not need to chase us.
What do we need to do to secure the date?
Two things. A signed service agreement and a 25 percent deposit by Interac, applied in full against your balance. From that moment the date is yours and it comes off our calendar.
Do you take more than one wedding a day?
We take up to three celebrations on a Saturday, and each one has its own dedicated team and its own equipment. Nothing is shared, nobody is travelling between venues, and no part of your evening is shaped by somebody else’s.
Who is with you on the night
Who will our DJ be?
You will know from the very first conversation.
Back to Basics is led by three DJs, Majd, Kirky and Kloud. You are matched with one of them before you book, and that is the person who plans your wedding with you, meets you through the lead up and stands behind the booth on the night. No surprises, no substitutions.
Who else is there on the night?
Every wedding gets a lead DJ and MC plus a supporting DJ, and a setup crew that arrives hours before you do. On a full production night that can be six or more people, and you will only ever deal with one of us.
Music
Do we have to build a playlist?
We ask you for two, and there is a reason.
The first conversation we have with you is not about logistics, it is about taste. What you listen to, what moves you, what you never want to hear. That call tells us whether we are the right fit for each other, and it is where your night starts taking shape.
From there we ask you to build two playlists. One for cocktail and dinner, one for the party. Inside them, flag anything that is an absolute must play and anything that is a never play. That is the entire ask, and most couples enjoy doing it.
We build everything around those two lists. The reading of the room, the transitions, the cultural sets, the moment the floor turns. But a night cannot feel like you unless we know you, and this is how we learn.
Drop your Spotify or Apple Music links straight into your planning sheet and add to them whenever something occurs to you. Between booking and the wedding we meet with you two to four times to go through the music and the schedule together, so nothing is left to chance.
We want Greek, Italian, Lebanese, Armenian, Egyptian, Persian or something else. Can you actually do it?
Yes, and we do it every weekend.
Montreal weddings are rarely one culture, and half of our nights are a mix. Our DJs build those sets themselves, in the right order, with the right transitions, and they know when the traditional block should land in the evening and how long it should run. You do not need to send us a list of songs from your culture. If anything, we will suggest ones you forgot.
What about a specific edit for the first dance or a parent dance?
We build custom edits in house. Mixing two songs together, shortening a track that runs too long, fading out at exactly the right moment. Send us what you have in mind and we will cut it and send it back for approval before the day.
Do you take requests from guests?
Yes, within reason and within your do not play list. Our DJs read the floor first and the request second. If your aunt asks for something that will empty the dancefloor, we will find a way to make her happy without killing your night.
Can our band or live musician play alongside you?
All the time. We regularly share the night with bands, string quartets, singers, live percussion and DJs brought in by the family, and we handle the handoffs so the room never goes quiet between sets.
The night itself
What is actually included in a typical wedding package?
The version most of our couples book includes:
- DJ and MC services, a lead plus a supporting DJ
- Surround audio for ceremony, cocktail and reception, with wireless microphones
- Smart and dynamic lighting, moving heads plus LED uplighting
- DJ equipment, facade and mixer
- Transport, installation and takedown
- A planning sheet for your music and timeline
- Two to four planning meetings with your DJ
Special effects, photobooth, live saxophone, percussion and extra lighting are added on top based on what you actually want.
Do you MC as well, or do we need someone separate?
We MC. Introductions, announcements, timeline cues, keeping the room moving. In English, in French, or switching between the two all night. You do not need to draft a cousin into the job.
Do you cover the ceremony and cocktail hour too?
Yes. Our standard setup covers all three zones. Ceremony audio with wireless mics for the officiant and the vows, background music and sound for cocktail, and the full system for the reception. Three separate setups, one price.
Can we add effects later, after we have booked?
Yes, and plenty of couples do. Cold sparks, dry ice for the first dance, CO2, a sax set, a photobooth, more uplighting. We update your invoice and it gets added to your balance. Effects can be added up to two weeks before the day, always subject to availability.
Can you do our ceremony music if it is outdoors?
Yes. We bring our own power where the site needs it, and we walk the venue in advance where it matters. Wind and distance are the two things that ruin outdoor vows and we plan around both.
How late do you play?
Until your venue calls it. Most Montreal venues run to 2am or 3am, and we play to the maximum end time your room allows. If the floor is full, we are not the ones ending the night.
Venue and logistics
Do you know our venue?
Probably very well. We are regulars at the Westbury, Le Windsor, Théâtre St-James, Plaza Volare, Maison Principale, the Four Seasons, Gare Viger, Embassy Plaza, Salon Ville Marie, Théâtre Cartier, Le Crystal and Club Atwater, among others.
Tell us where you are getting married and we will tell you exactly how that room sounds, where the booth should sit and what we have learned there. If it is somewhere new to us, we visit it before your date.
Do you handle the venue coordination?
Yes. We speak directly to your venue and your planner about load in times, power, elevator access and takedown. It is one of the reasons couples who work with a planner still tell us we made their life easier.
What do you need from the venue on the day?
Access several hours before guests arrive, adequate power near the setup area, and a load in path. We confirm all of it with your venue in writing well before the date so nobody is problem solving at 4pm.
Do you travel outside Montreal?
Yes. We have produced weddings across Quebec and internationally, including Italy, Greece and Halifax. Travel and accommodation are quoted separately and transparently.
Do you work with wedding planners?
Constantly, and we like it. Many of Montreal’s leading planners bring us in year after year. If you have a planner, put us in touch and we will take it from there.
Pricing
How much does a wedding cost?
Most of our weddings land between $6,000 and $8,000 before tax, depending on the size of the room, the number of zones and the effects you want.
We quote after a short call, because the honest answer depends on whether you have a ceremony outside, a cocktail in a separate room, 120 guests or 300, and whether you want the night to end in sparks.
Your quote is above our budget. Is there anything we can do?
Talk to us. We would rather adjust the scope than cut corners on quality.
There is almost always a version that fits, fewer moving heads, one less zone, effects dropped for now and added later if the budget frees up. What we will not do is send the same night with a cheaper team or worse equipment and pretend it is the same thing.
What is the payment schedule?
25 percent to confirm the date, applied to your balance. The rest is due per your contract before the event. We accept Interac, cheque and EFT.
Is there a fee for travel or setup?
Setup, transport and takedown are included in your quote for events in and around Montreal. Anything further out is quoted openly up front, never added later.
After you book
What happens between booking and the wedding?
You get your planning sheet right away, and that becomes the home for your timeline, your music and every detail as it develops. Add to it whenever something occurs to you, there is no deadline pressure.
Closer to the date, your DJ runs planning calls with you to walk the whole night, moment by moment. By the week of the wedding everything is locked, we are aligned with your venue and your planner, and you have nothing left to do.
How much do you need from us?
Your two playlists, your key moments, and the time to sit with us two to four times. That is genuinely it. Everything else we build around what we learn about you.
Corporate and private events
Do you do corporate events?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Holiday parties, galas, launches and year end celebrations for teams including RE/MAX, Moroccanoil, Paysafe, Softchoice, Siemens Energy and the Ville de Montréal.
Corporate work is a different brief. Microphones for speeches and awards, video playback, run of show coordination and a bilingual MC. See our corporate page
Do you do birthdays, engagements and private parties?
Yes. Same team, same equipment, scaled to the room.
Do you carry insurance?
Yes, commercial general liability. Many venues ask for a certificate and we provide one on request, including naming your venue where required.
Still have a question?
Ask us. We answer every message ourselves and we reply within one business day. Or send your date and we will tell you straight away whether it is open.
